It has been a while....
It has been a while since I wrote a blog. Yeah, it's exactly a month (little password problem). Since the last update I have been announced to the senior honor society, watched a classic match up between Mary Washington/YCP, and a long enduring week of finals. Earlier during the semester I had a blog discussing the stress of trying to get an internship for next semester, I like to let you know now that I have finally secured one. The internship is with ESPN, where I will be a studio productions intern. I am definitely excited for this great opportunity and live up to the York College name. Right now no one is on campus and everyone is home enjoying the winter break. I don’t have many plans yet, but as far as I know tomorrow I’m suppose to see the musical Mama Mia! Well, that is all for now Happy Holidays!

In a place called South Carolina
Well, before I begin I like to say congratulations to my friends in Spring Garden for placing in the Lip Sync Contest. This past weekend I went away to a sport management conference in the Columbus, South Carolina. The conference was definitely a great experience it allowed me to actually network with executives from major companies (i.e. Under Armour and San Diego Padres) in a non-stressful environment. It also allowed me to interact with fellow majors from other institutions as well as the world. If you are serious about your career and major you should go to conference, it can only benefit you in the long run.

In the Spirit of things...
This week the school is running Spirit Week. Spirit Week is designed to build the Spirit of the Students in the aspects of what they like and York College. Several events have been set up just for the week; they include: 300 the movie, Spartapalooza, and York’s Lip Sync Contest. Today the students will be wearing nothing but York College attire (i.e. Screamin’ Green Shirts). Friday’s Lip Sync contest is definitely a show that I want to see. Contestants will be vying out for a 1st place prize of $1,200. I wish my friends who are participating good luck.

Football Sunday
So my dad decided to reward me with two tickets to one of my favorite sport teams. Sadly, that team is the New York Jets. Even though they have been performing below par, I felt that the game would be a guaranteed win because they were playing the Redskins. Little did I know that I was wrong. The JETS lost in theatrical fashion in overtime 23-20. I was not the only one disappointed. I went to the game with a good friend of mine, Tim, whose also a JET fan to live through the debacle. On a lighter note, I did enjoy my time there, he fans were loud, paper planes were being thrown all over the place, and I got to do the J-E-T-S chant. Well, when it was all over we had to drive back three hours back so I can continue to write my 10 page paper.

The Hunt During Red October
Sorry it's not that kind of hunt. Just taking a break right now, from my internship search. As a senior sport management major I'm suppose to have a work experience prior to graduation. My work experience is suppose to take place. I am really finding it a hassle to get this done. The sad thing is, your probably just wondering why I am waiting in October. Sadly, it is actually something out of my control. The organizations that I am looking into just like to wait late in the year to start up. See kids when you get a job don't allow the big man determine your faith, sometimes it just takes annoyance to get what you want.

Fall Break Wedding
So school is back in gear after a nice "Columbus Break". This break, like most of my friends, I went to a wedding. I send my wishes to my friend Jon and his wife for them to have a great lasting marriage. The wedding was nice, it was definitely a good time for me to catch up with friends that have graduated and reminisce about our college lives. One interesting moment was watching the groom and the best man dance to the new dance that sweeping the nation, the soulja boy dance. I even learned how to do the Cotton Eyed Joe. I wish that day never ended, but back to school.

Fall Festivus for Rest of Us!
Fall Fest has just come and gone and I would like to say it was one of my favorites this year. The events and the organizations involved made it the better part of my week. unfortunately, I couldn't spend it with the family. On eof the most interesting things I saw was this talented Balloon artist, which CAB hired for the day. He made some interesting things ( Goofy, Daffy Duck, and Cinderella to name a few). And do you know what I for? a little monkey, silly me.

Back in the Day... I was an RA ( Thnx Amy for the title)
I was hanging out with my RA (Resident Assistant) the other day and we were hanging out and watching movies, “How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days (Don’t Ask). While enjoying the company of others, it reminded me how much I missed being a RA. Memories of staff meetings, theme weeks, and duty nights just make me chuckle because of the fact how much I enjoyed having an important job. I might not be one right now, but I am one at heart. I miss so much I still visit the office as if I am still one (maybe I should get paid for my visits). All I have left is the memories and the skills that I have learned, which will help me in future occupations.

Live On WVYC 99.7!
Even though this happened a couple days ago, it was such a great experience. On Tuesday, September 18th, I had the privilege to be a guest on the Global Groove, a radio show run by York College's Radio Station (WVYC 99.7). I would admit I was nervous, but my good friend Hiran, the host, made me feel like I was at home. The only setback that occured was when I was introduced my microphone was cutoff, so it was good moment of silence when I thought I was talking. Hey something always happens when I am around.

It isn't easy playing Fair!!!
Saturday was a jolly good time at York. A friend of mine came down for the evening and we brought along some friends to go to the York Fair. It was the first time that I went down to the fairgrounds and it's quite sad because it is my last year. What I thought would be a waste of good time of my like ended up being a blast by spending it with close friends of mine. Yes,we ended up playing games and no we did not win any prized. The sad thing is we lost to a 10 year old in the water gun race. My favorite moment at the fair was placing friendly bets on pig races. The Three of us ended up winning one of the four races, but my friend Nick one the big one with his pig Christina Hoguilera. Oh, what a fair!

Oh Brother.....
Well I am back. Today was a hectic day I woke up early because i couldn't sleep anymore and i didn't feel confident going into my first exam of the year.
I am a big reality television buff if you didn't know and my favorite show, Big Brother, was on tonight. I'm not going to spoil it for the readers, but it goes to show you that sometimes mean people get rewarded.

Right back in the mix of things
It's my senior year at YCP and boy do I feel like I'm getting old. Right now we are in our third week of classes, which basically means that first rounds of exams are now rolling in. If you didn't know I am a Sport Management major and my first exam is coming from the hardest class in the major, Legal Aspects of Sports. So now I have to study 120 pages of court cases for my exam tomorrow and my METS are on ESPN tonight. I'm will have to figure a way out of this.

How many does it take to fix a flat?
Well, I know it has been a while, but I do have an interesting story. You might know society might believe that road test should mandate people to learn how to change a flat. Well, if I were taking it as part of my road test I would honestly fail because I actually do not know where to start.
While on our way to home for Easter break my roommate was driving in Brooklyn, NY. The streets of NY are not up to top form so all of a sudden “pop! The right rear tire blows out. We tried to make it back home, but the tire was severely destroyed. We had to urgently park the car in a lot with really poor lighting. My instinct told me this was not safe. Oddly enough at 1 in the morning a man that worked in the nearby gas station decided to assist, sadly enough he barely knew what he was doing. Right when all this occurring New York’s finest drives by and looks at us in curiosity, but they decide not to offer any assistance. We didn’t improve on replacing the tires until my father came with the proper equipment to get the car jacked to the proper height. Over and hour and half went by since the tire popped and we finally was able to fix it. So one might wander how many guys it takes to fix a flat well for this situation I can say four. The moral of the story simply is prepare for the worst that can happen.

It's Scheduling Time!
Hey everyone it has just been awhile. Lately I’ve been focused so hard the last few weeks because projects and test are becoming more crucial towards the end of the semester. This past week I had my second advising meeting of the school year and this time it was with the rest of the sport management majors. Our adviser, Dr. Newman, went over the scheduling process for school and what changes for majors to expect next school year. As far as to my knowledge for incoming sport management majors; the course History and Philosophy of Sport will no longer exist in the curriculum and it has been replaced by two 400 level courses, Ticketing/Negotiation and Professional development. The ticketing course will be a great addition to the curriculum; unfortunately I don’t have the chance to take it. The course focuses on how to increase sales and develop business relationships with consumers. I haven’t heard much about the business development course, when I do I will post it as soon as possible. Well after all this discussion I have to prepare for tomorrow, which is the day I schedule classes for my senior year!

Sit and Listen
Many months have significant meanings (i.e. February=Black History Month). But many people might not know the significance of the month of March. Little did I know that the month of March was dedicated to one of your senses. That sense is hearing.
No matter where you go in the business world an important asset for an individual is the ability to listen. Listening shows respect and it facilitates understanding. The ability to listen is necessary for successful relationships at work, at school, and at home. It is such an important skill, but like any other, it takes deliberate practice and effort to develop.
The official name is International Listening Awareness Month. AN organization by the name of International Listening Association dedicated this month to the art of learning and absorbing information. During this month you should take the time and listen to others vent, talk, or even instruct to you. By utilizing this time you will then be able to get the opportunity to absorb value information that can be of use to you in the future. So for this month take the chance and pay attention for which you never know what you will learn.

Prepare for Glory: 300
Well, the full week back took some time getting use to for the moment and the week came by with a surprise. The highlight of my weekend was seeing the movie that is all the talk around campus this week. And that movie is 300. Many historians can debate about the significance of the historical battle of Thermopylae occurring for no reason. What many don’t know is that if it weren’t for that battle democracy in Greece would have seized to exist, which probably would have had an affect on us as well. Even though the movie is based off of a graphic novel the general idea comes from an actual historical event. A lot of movies in the past in the genre of history or graphic novel have not lived up to expectations, but with this new approach to these stories I am happy say that directors are finally getting the point. Creators of these novels deserve the right to have heir works represented with dignity and respect. All I have to say is go support King Leonidas and the 300 Spartans and watch the movie as soon as possible because you will not be disappointed.
